Santa Ana Street
The main attraction for most railfan's in the city of Anaheim is without a doubt Santa Ana Street. This little stretch of row on the Union Pacific's Santa Ana Branchline features street running up the center of the street, the only operating wig-wag signal in Orange County and vintage style housing to add to the historical feeling. To get to Santa Ana Street navigate the 5 freeway to the Lincoln Ave offramp and head east, make a right on West Street and follow until you reach Santa Ana Street. You can refer to the map below for further navigation.
Santa Ana street is used by two of the three UP locals that run out of West Anaheim. It is a stretch of track about 1 mile in length. The track runs up the middle of the street after converging on the west side after crossing the 5 freeway, and the east side from Olive street. The line has been in this same place since 1899 according to a recent article I read. The track did extend passed Olive Street at one time, but remanents of this no longer exsist.

UPY 1141 heads west over the just installed concrete panels at West Street back in November 2004 Another angle of UPY 1141 cutting passed the traffic waiting to turn left on West Street.

Starting in October 2004 the Union Pacific replaced the track, ballast and rail ties that were present up Santa Ana Street. I followed the project and documented the event by taking photos and video which can be found at this LINK.

Santa Ana Street and Lemon was the location of the only operating Wig-Wag signal in Orange County. It has sadly been removed.
