Fresno, CA ... The center of Fresno County. Became a city in 1885 basically out of convenience of Fresno Station which was established in 1872 by the Central Pacific Railroad which had a store next to the station. County seat for Fresno County was moved to the city from Millerton which was inudated by water in 1944. The downtown district of Fresno contains some of the last remaining examples of 20th Century architecture in California, this includes a good amount of wig-wag signals and rails down the street as well as a lot of abandoned row. BNSF, UP and San Joaquin Valley Railroad all have yards in Fresno near Calwa, CA
