Los Angeles Junction Railroad (LAJ)
More or less a subsidery of the BNSF since the days of the Santa Fe, the LAJ takes care of all the BNSF's local industries in Vernon and Commerce. They have two yards, one in Commerce and the main yard in Vernon on the southwest side of the LA River. Their main office is located on Exchange Ave.
As of recent, their main engines are GG20B's lettered in BNSF but they also have a small fleet of former Santa Fe CF7's that still get used.
The BNSF runs an interchange manifest with the LAJ yard which goes by the symbol M-BARLAC or M-LACBAR depending on which way it is going between the LAJ and Barstow. BNSF makes the connection to the LAJ via San Pedro Junction at the west end of Hobart yard. They use a small portion of the UP's San Pedro Sub to enter the west end of the LAJ A yard. The following photos are of the M-BARLAC & M-LACBAR at Maywood and Charter Street in Vernon as they enter LAJ's yard.
* BNSF 4067 brings a M-BARLAC off the UP San Pedro Sub and onto the LAJ A yard lead * Another image as the BNSF 4067 crosses Maywood Street on the LAJ A yard lead with the M-BARLAC interchange train. * At this point the crew usually will all the LAJ Yardmaster and find out where they can put the train and what track is clear to pull out of.
